How to care for cashmere
Washing
- Wash only after several wears. Air it out between wears.
- Hand wash in cool water (up to 30°C, 86°F) with a wool or cashmere shampoo.
- Soak for about 10 minutes, rinse gently, and press out water. Never wring.
Drying
- Roll in a towel to take out water, then lay flat on a dry towel, reshaping it.
- Do not hang or tumble dry.
Ironing
- Steam lightly from a distance, or use a low iron with a cloth over the knit.
Storing
- Fold, never hang. Keep clean, in breathable cloth, with cedar or lavender.
Mistakes to avoid
- Washing in warm water.
- Hanging it, which stretches the shoulders.
- Picking at pills: use a cashmere comb instead.
Always follow the care label on the garment. Blends, dyes and finishes can change what a piece can take, and a lower temperature is always safe. Thraed records the fabric of each piece you scan, so it is in your closet when you need it.
