How to care for wool
Washing
- Wash only when needed. Air it out between wears.
- Use a wool cycle or hand wash in cool water (up to 30°C, 86°F) with a wool detergent.
- Press water out gently. Do not wring or twist.
Drying
- Lay flat on a towel, reshaping the garment. Do not hang it, as the weight stretches it.
- Do not tumble dry. Heat and tumbling cause felting and shrinking.
Ironing
- Use steam or a low heat with a cloth between the iron and the wool.
Storing
- Fold knitwear. Hanging stretches the shoulders.
- Store clean in a cool, dry place with cedar or lavender against moths.
Mistakes to avoid
- Washing warm or hot, which shrinks it.
- Hanging a wet sweater to dry.
- Storing it dirty, which attracts moths.
Always follow the care label on the garment. Blends, dyes and finishes can change what a piece can take, and a lower temperature is always safe. Thraed records the fabric of each piece you scan, so it is in your closet when you need it.
