How to care for denim
Washing
- Wash every 5 to 10 wears, or when they look or smell dirty.
- Turn inside out and wash cold (up to 30°C, 86°F) on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent.
- Wash dark and raw denim alone, as the dye runs.
Drying
- Line dry or lay flat. Hang by the waistband to reduce creases.
- Tumble dry on low if you must. High heat shrinks denim and damages stretch fibres.
Ironing
- Iron inside out on a medium heat if needed. Most denim does not need it.
Storing
- Hang or fold. Keep away from direct sunlight, which fades the colour.
Mistakes to avoid
- Washing after every wear.
- Washing hot.
- Mixing dark jeans with light clothes.
Always follow the care label on the garment. Blends, dyes and finishes can change what a piece can take, and a lower temperature is always safe. Thraed records the fabric of each piece you scan, so it is in your closet when you need it.
