How to care for nylon
Wash cool on a gentle cycle, air dry or tumble low.Nylon is strong and stretchy, used in tights, activewear and jackets. Heat damages it, and it can yellow if washed hot.
Washing
- Machine wash cool or warm (up to 30–40°C, 86–104°F) on a gentle cycle.
- Use a mesh bag for tights and delicates.
- Avoid chlorine bleach.
Drying
- Air dry, or tumble dry low. High heat weakens the fibres.
Ironing
- Rarely needed. If so, use a low setting and a cloth.
Storing
- Fold or hang. Keep away from heat and sunlight.
Mistakes to avoid
- Using hot water or a hot dryer.
- Washing with rough items like jeans, which snag nylon.
Always follow the care label on the garment. Blends, dyes and finishes can change what a piece can take, and a lower temperature is always safe. Thraed records the fabric of each piece you scan, so it is in your closet when you need it.
