How to care for suede

Brush with a suede brush, protect with spray, keep it dry.Suede is leather with a soft, brushed surface. Water and oil leave marks, so prevention matters more than cleaning.

Washing

  • Do not wash. Brush gently in one direction with a suede brush.
  • For marks, use a suede eraser, then brush.
  • Use a suede protector spray before first wear, and every few months.

Drying

  • If it gets wet, blot with a cloth, stuff with paper, and let it dry at room temperature.
  • Brush once dry to lift the nap.

Ironing

  • Do not iron suede.

Storing

  • Keep it in a breathable bag, stuffed to hold the shape, away from sun, which fades the colour.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Rubbing a stain, which spreads it.
  • Drying it on a radiator.
  • Using water or regular leather polish.

Always follow the care label on the garment. Blends, dyes and finishes can change what a piece can take, and a lower temperature is always safe. Thraed records the fabric of each piece you scan, so it is in your closet when you need it.
